Checkatrade provides valuable reassurance to consumers
As a member of Checkatrade, I’m proud to have been awarded a certificate for receiving 1000 reviews.
I joined Checkatrade as I believe it serves a valuable purpose in giving consumers the reassurance and help they need to find trustworthy and reliable tradespeople.
Here’s why Checkatrade is such a respected organisation.
Members undergo background checks
Checkatrade runs strict background checks on tradespeople before they can become members. It vets all members thoroughly before displaying them on its website.
And once you become a member, you have to agree to have feedback from your customers put online for all to see. No other directory of tradespeople uses this model. This combination of background checks and public feedback ensures that when you’re looking for someone to do a job, you can find reliable and trusted people.
Over the years, Checkatrade has improved and adapted its vetting requirements to keep up to date with government legislation and current laws. It continuously raises its standards. On each member’s page, you can see which checks have been carried out and passed by that organisation.
The promises members make
In order to meet Checkatrade Standards, members must agree to:
- Be honest in all dealings with you
- Tell you about any call-out fees before coming to you
- Let you know straight away if they can’t do the work
- Keep appointments and arrive on time (calling in advance if they need to reschedule)
- Be realistic about when they can start work and how long it will take
- Be courteous. Treat you, your property and belongings with respect
- Keep you in the picture about all aspects of the work
- Return phone messages promptly
- Create an additional contract for variations from the original agreement
- Deal with complaints promptly and professionally
- Never demand cash payment
- Never be verbally or physically abusive or threatening to a customer in any way
- Not obtain work through cold calling
Why customers are the best advocates
Checkatrade believes the best people to monitor its members are their customers.
Customers of a member of Checkatrade receive a Checkatrade Reputation Report card from the tradesperson. This card allows them to make comments and give scores out of ten across different areas of workmanship and service. You can also provide feedback online if you prefer.
Reviews are then published on how trades and services have been performed – this is what is at the heart of Checkatrade. In essence, it’s a platform for passing on word of mouth recommendations about the quality of tradespeople.
All members are continually monitored via their customer's feedback.
Making it easy for you to find reliable tradespeople
With this continual feedback, Checkatrade makes it easy for the customer to look for reliable tradespeople in their area – wherever they are in the country.
For example, simply type in ‘Locksmith’ and an area situated in Surrey, Hampshire or Berkshire – and Rocks Locks is sure to appear.
They have published approximately 4.1 million reviews to date, providing invaluable information on reliability and timekeeping, tidiness, courtesy, and workmanship.
