It's National Home Security Month - Time to check if your home security is up to scratch!
As October is National Home Security Month, we are supporting this campaign by providing some advice and guidance on how to conduct your own security check this month. It is also advised to annually check your home and contents insurance policies are still valid and are providing as much cover as you think they are.
Have you ever read through your home/business insurance policy and pondered on whether you would actually be fully covered in the event of a claim?
If you live in a higher risk area, you may find that although your locks may meet the minimum standard recommended by police and locksmiths, they may not meet the required standard of your insurance company because of where you live, and this risks invalidating your insurance.
If you have an alarm system, you may think this is a simple yes/no tick box on an insurance application, however many insurers now want to know how the alarm is operated, what time of day it is in use, if the property is alarmed at night, how long the property is left vacant and where the alarm is situated.
All these factors will affect your cover in the event of a claim.
The NHSM Campaign has provided this Home Security Checklist which you can download and quickly complete the tick box list to see if you have adequate security for your needs. If you would like an expert opinion and are interested in a professional security survey, Rock Locks offer a FREE insurance survey that includes:
- External door security
- Window security
- Garage security
- Outbuilding Security
- Property Boundary Security
- Outdoor Security – lighting/access routes
Having a home/business security survey will help you to establish not only if your property is as secure as you need it to be, but also if the level of security and the locks you have fitted meet the minimum standards required by your insurance company.
